Introductory courses teaching the techniques for winter mountain walking - perfect for the summer hill walker who wants to get out into the hills in winter.

Making the transition from summer to winter conditions is something many walkers want to do, but winter walking involves much more technical knowledge to be safe than summer walking. We will show you how to to take the first steps, and help you to become independent walkers in winter conditions.

Courses will be run from Fort William
On the courses, you will learn about:
- Crampon and Ice axe use
- Avalanches and how to avoid them
- Weather forecasts and how to use them
- Emergency survival and snow shelters
- Navigation techniques for winter walking
- How to protect yourself on steep ground

A five-day course is enough time to cover all the areas needed to start you off towards being an independent winter walker. A weekend is sufficient to cover the very basics of the course and give you a taster.
Accommodation is not included, but can be arranged to suit your budget and timetable.
