Tour Types Mini Treks - These holidays are based in one hotel for the majority of the time but towards the end of the week, we go off for three or four days to trek further afield, staying in mountain refuges along the way. A great way to try out true trekking holidays. Rucksack weight should be no more than 10kg during the mini-trek, but considerably less than this on the other days. The day before the trek starts is reserved as a rest day. Trekking Tours - For these holidays, we overnight at different hotels or mountain huts, where bedding and food is provided, so no tents, sleeping bags nor cooking kit need to be carried, just personal kit for the duration of the holiday , plus some food. Rucksack weight should be around 10kg. Due to time constraints and reservations, rest days can only be taken as per the programme. Trekking with Tents - We carry our accommodation with us for all or part of these holidays - tents, sleeping bags, stoves and food will all need to be carried, making the rucksacks weigh in at up to 15kg. To enjoy a walk of this grade, you should be a regular walker, or fit from some other activity.
Grade of the Walks When deciding upon the grade of the walk you require, please remember that an easy trek WILL be harder than an easy day-walk, due to the weight of the rucksack. Easy - These walks will generally follow reasonable paths, and are generally shorter (up to 4 or 5 hours), with less ascent. Medium - The gradient of path, longer days, and narrow paths all would contribute towards a walk of this grade. Fitness, experience and sure-footedness will all make this grade of holiday more enjoyable for you and your companions. Hard - Some holidays will be harder due to the large distances covered, or ascent made, whereas for others it may be due to the terrain. Fixed equipment may have to be used (ladders and ropes), or possible snow patches crossed. You should be fit (stamina not speed), have some experience of harder days in the mountains and be sure-footed.
